FROSTival is our way of saying “embrace winter”! This seems to come pretty naturally to kids, so in the spirit of childlike wonder and play, give winter a big high five, grab the kids and experience all the great activities made just for families during FROSTival!

Snowflake Making Station
January 19 – February 12, 10am | Fredericton Public Library (2nd Floor)| FREE
There’s something about cutting, cutting, cutting…then: Voila! Opening up the folds to a beautifully made snowflake! After you’ve admired your handiwork, you can take it home to display on the fridge or leave it in the library gallery for all to see and appreciate!

Architectural Features Scavenger Hunt
January 19 – February 12, FREE | Around Fredericton
Do you like the game of “I Spy”? This is one of my most favourite games that I played with my kids, and I still love the challenge of finding secret or little known items.  With this in mind, the “Architectural Features Scavenger Hunt is like the I Spy game that we all loved, so in celebration of Heritage Week,  Fredericton Heritage Trust is asking you to get up close and personal with heritage structures through a scavenger hunt! So look up, down and all around in and around the downtown! Entries with the most correct answers will be entered into the draw for first, second and third place prizes for adult and children. Winners will be chosen and contacted February 13th.

Watch the classic “Beauty and the Beast” in a musical format as it is performed by Collective Theatrics! Four performances; one each night at 7pm and a matinee at 1:30pm on Saturday, February 4.  Tickets will be $20 general admission, $15 students/children and go on sale December 1st.

Astronomy At UNB (SOLD OUT)
February 4, 6:45-8pm, 8-9:15pm, 9:15-10:30pm | I.U.C. Physics & Admin building, 8 Bailey Drive, UNB campus | FREE  (Space is limited, registration required).
There is nothing more AMAZING than gazing at the nighttime sky, complete with an explanation why these constellations are there in the first place! And kids will love looking through the telescope at the winter night sky. Some of the nighttime sky attractions: the Moon, Orion Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy, and the Pleiades open star cluster. This is a great way to introduce kids to the very cool world of astronomy! There will be three consecutive, hour-long tours; register online for your time slot!

Expose your child to art in its many forms! At Gallery 78, you will find all art forms on display but the common theme is Atlantic Canada! Kids can even watch the artists create some of their amazing work on site! Come be inspired and learn about the tradition of art making. Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies while exploring this historic building and the beautiful art on display.

Beaverbrook Art Gallery:  A Winter Pallette

This is NOT your typical art creation! This very cool art workshop, intended for kids from 7-10 years, will have kids create winter landscapes and cityscapes using acryclics with help from artist Christina Thomson. They will then come away with their very own, unique masterpiece!

Be dazzled by theatrics, acrobatics, juggling and more! This young contemporary circus company is the perfect performance for all ages!  Set 15 years after the apocalypse, this performance follows five survivors who create an astounding machine as part of their quest to find signs of humanity. Watch the “survivors” manipulate props like a teeterboard, juggling clubs, a drum kit and even a bath towel! This show will promise to be hilarious as it is nostalgic.

How would you like to be part of an exhibition called “Sweet as Art”? Be the one to help create a “Gumball Mural” with artist Franz Spohn, and like the name says, this art will be made up entirely of gumballs!   Refreshments will be served.

This is not your typical ice skating show, folks! Le Patin Libre is a Montreal-based company that describes their performances as “contemporary dance on ice.” This group of high level figure skaters transforms traditional figure skating into a means of free expression, with components of urban street dance. The group’s performance touch on leadership, bullying, individualism and rivalry.
