Ketchup on the YFC Burger Battle
The Hilltop Pub’s burger “Holy Smoke” takes first place in this year’s YFC Burger Battle. The contest which took place from March 25th to April 8th pitted Freddy Beach restaurants against each other in order to determine the best burger in the capital city. The event was sponsored by the Fredericton Craft Beer Festival. The Holy Smoke burger was created by Hilltop Chef Peter Devito, with smoked lean ground beef, garlic aioli, candied pancetta, chorizo jam, spring mix, and fresh tomatoes on top of a caramelized brioche bun.
14 local restaurants and pubs competed in the contest for burger glory. The overall winner was determined by online voting by patrons to each of the restaurants. Second place honours goes to Wetmore Street Pub. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Diabetes Canada supporting type one diabetes research.
