Fredericton, NB – Planet Hatch, Mitacs and the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Faculty of Business Administration’s International Business and Entrepreneurship Centre (IBEC) announce a new pilot program called Accelerate Entrepreneur for UNB graduate and postdoctoral student entrepreneurs.
“This pilot program will support university-based entrepreneurs who are solving research problems, which in turn, will have positive impacts on our economy and our society. The University of New Brunswick and Planet Hatch are key partners in the development of this initiative — and we are grateful for their support and leadership.”
Alejandro Adem, CEO & Scientific Director – Mitacs
Mitacs, a national not-for-profit research and training organization, is piloting Accelerate Entrepreneur with Planet Hatch and UNB, to enable full-time UNB graduate and postdoctoral students, undertaking an entrepreneurial venture, to participate in the program.
Mitacs’ internships connect companies and organizations with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, who apply their specialized expertise to research challenges. Interns transfer their skills from theory to real-world application, while the companies gain a competitive advantage by accessing high-quality research expertise.
“Mitacs represents a significant partnership that further promotes strong collaboration between, industries, academia, and governments. Its strong performance in programming and pathways for experiential learning aligns with our strategic direction for Planet Hatch.”
Larry Shaw, CEO – Planet Hatch / Knowledge Park / Ignite Fredericton
Planet Hatch, the Fredericton Region’s entrepreneurial hub and collaboration centre located at Knowledge Park, has been assessed as an eligible incubator through its partnership and memorandum of understanding (MOU) with UNB’s Faculty of Business-IBEC. The MOU enables students to have experiential learning opportunities and full access to Knowledge Park facilities and startup incubation resources, including business support and growth programming services.
.“Our business programs have been gaining momentum in providing student entrepreneurs the experiences and connections to take their business plans from idea to live launch. This momentum has increased since our partnership with Ignite Fredericton-Planet Hatch. Including Mitacs in the partnership will expand our offerings to a broader group including post-graduate and post-doctorate students from a variety of disciplines.”
